Hello - I received a mailing about Square Foot Gardening in the mail today. I want to have do a vegetable garden and this looks like a good way to begin. So I am excited for the warm weather to get here so I can get this project started.

The gardening I have most done, is maintaining the landscaping around the house. I have moved from annuals to perennials. Annuals are just too costly.

Last winter I decided that I wanted to grow tomatoes so I started tomato plants from seed. They did really well in the house under the plant light. It was too bad that the bunny ate every single one of them when I set the container outside once the weather warmed up. I will need to build my unit with chicken wire around it.

I learned a trick from a friend with green onions. Don't throw away the bulb end that I cut off, plant it and it will grow back. We loved having fresh grilled green onions!

I have the bug to have a garden so any and all suggestions on getting started will be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

Howdy Moror:

Welcome to the Square Foot Gardening forum and family. The best way to get started in the fastest growing garden method and the easiest way to garden ever invented is to get and read Mel Batholomew's book, "ALL NEW Square Foot Gardening". It is an easy read and will give you the foundation you need to get started in gardening.

If you have any questions please ask them here on the forum. We are a diverse group of gardeners. Some have never gardened in their lives and some have dedicated their lives to gardening. Most of us are somewhere in between. We love to talk Square Foot Gardening so again please ask.

God Bless, Ward.
