Hi Cy, Your first post.
That is a nice looking setup. Do you have any photos of "before" to share.

Oh my goodness! That was some garden and it looks like it was successful. Can you share your reason for down-sizing?
Speaking of out-of-the-bed, that is quite a tomato bucket brigade extension. Are they double stacked self-watering?

That was an impressive garden, Cy. Where are you located? You may want to add the location in your profile so others can relate to you based on the location.

Re: Downsized this year but built a pretty nice alternative.
I downsized because of time. I used to be self employed, had lots of spare time at home. I also ran a local Garden Clubs Green House for their annual plant sale so had access to lots of free plant material.
This will be my first garden in almost 6 years. I'm excited for fresh tomatoes and peppers again.
I live in Villa Park, IL, (about 20 miles due west of Chiraq).

Welcome back to the gardening world, and this Forum.
Can you comment on your bucket brigade?

Buckets
The Buckets are SIPs (Sub-Irrigated Planters). The only different thing I do with my version is use the lids to keep the evaporation of water to a min. Cut a hole in the top for the fill tube and one just big enough for the plant. The tops also make a great place to attach the Tomato cages to so they are sturdy enough to hold the weight of bigger plants. One last thing would be, I put a heavy ring of Tomatone Fertilizer around the inside ring of the buckets and the tops keep water from directly washing it away...that way it will slowly absorb and feed the pot for the entire season.
I found this is actually the best way to grow Peppers and tomatoes. Easier watering, and produce better plants.
I ran out of time this year or I would have made a few new buckets (my old ones have cracked). I will be making 2 or three to have ready for next year.
