Deciding what to do about the 1/3 of Compost in Mel's Mix?
Hi,
I'm new to gardening and will be installing 4 raised beds. I’m having trouble deciding what to do about the 1/3 of compost. Neither are organic, I worry about persistent pesticides, pre-emergent herbicides and other selective herbicides. Maybe i’m over thinking things….i don’t know
What are your thoughts?
Option #1
Composted Manure
The composted manure is made here on the farm from our own cows.

Option #2
Compost (Main Yard)
Our compost is a ground down blend of leaves, brush, and other yard waste, which then is left to rot for 3-5 years time. We then screen the material for the finished product. Great for using in vegetable gardens or blending with you existing soil to add needed nutrients.

Re: Deciding what to do about the 1/3 of Compost in Mel's Mix?
For compost, it is recommended that manure-based compost be limited to 20-25% of the total composts. Green waste if screened of wood pieces should be good for the remaining 75-80%. If you also have access to a veggie based compost, that would be great.

So what are you thoughts on me going with:
Option #2

And say no to option #1 using the Herrington composted cow manure, that way my concern about persistent pesticides/herbicides from the hay, straw and feed passing through the into the cows manure since they're not an organic dairy farm.
I could also pickup a few bags of commercially packaged compost of something like a land and sea, or cow manure....
