First harvest from my 1st SFG..
Today I picked our first harvest from my SFG...1 huge cauliflower and 1 broccoli. Gave up trying to grow these in my regular row garden years ago. This is a real treat for us and will have them for out Sunday dinner. May have a little salad from the SFG also..
In the SFG...

The cauliflower was huge...

One thing I learned was that the broccoli and cauliflower need to go in the far north row.. Got much bigger than I expected...I'll get it right...

Same is true for Brussels sprout. The get very tall, and very large leaves.

Fortunately I did put my brussels sprouts on the back north row.. It was getting partial sun but with the plants removed it's getting full sun now. It's got little button sprouts about 1/4 inch and I clipped off the leaves where they were growing..
Something very satisfying about growing your own produce and putting it on the table. The cauliflower and broccoli took to my sfg like champs...Everything else is looking good also..
Thanks,
Scottie

Fantastic, Scottie! Those look great.
How long would you say it took from planting to harvest? And did you start them indoors?

When do you put out your broccoli plants? I always seem to be too late.

Re: First harvest from my 1st SFG..
Don't remember the exact date I put them in the ground but was several months ago. I'm thinking toward the end of January or first of February. Once I started seeing them head up it wasn't no time till they were ready for harvest. I did pull the leaves around the cauliflower called blanching like I read about maybe a couple week ago.. Had to cover them up a few times due to somewhat hard freeze but didn't worry about a lite frost.
I did buy the plants from Home Depot as seedlings. Hadn't planned on buying them then but had to space so why not.. I do need to keep better records of my plantings for sure..
They were very tasty yesterday...

The mels mix stuff is amazing.... Haven't needed to water my sfg at all since I put it all together...Had my traditional row garden planted for hardly a week and already needs watering...last year for that for sure...
Should be getting a good rain tonight..at least it looks to be headed our way.

Louisiana gets rain, as do other locations. I have to water 2X day in the summer.
