New composter for the kitchen?
Check out Lomi on Indiegogo. 4 hours from waste to compost?? We'll see! I just heard about it today from the Hustle newsletter.

INDIEGOGO seems to be broken
I tried to back the project, but it won't take "my country". Not US, USA, United States or United States of America. is there another? Any hints?

Are you talking the first item (Lomi - Indiego special)?Ret EE wrote:I tried to back the project, but it won't take "my country". Not US, USA, United States or United States of America. is there another? Any hints?

I had the same problem the first time. It seems to send you to the international selection instead of the North American one.
This seems to be the work-around:
The second time I refreshed the start page, clicked on "Ships to United States of America, Canada, and Puerto Rico". This expands the block. Then I clicked on "Get this perk". Now it took me to a page where I could select "United States" in the country block. That's as far as I went, because I have no problem using every bit of kitchen scrap I can get!
They do warn you not to think of this as a purchase.

Done thanks it worked
I appreciate it. I'm familiar with crowd funding & the disclaimers. I've not been disappointed yet.

So what happens to the stuff that doesn't make it to your plates or stomachs? It seems like this is a decent way to prepare our kitchen waste for our compost pile and speed up the process. Given the cost of buying/prepping compost $379 isn't an outrageous cost. I had been thinking of some easy way to chop up the waste & the Lomi does that.markqz wrote:

Re: New composter for the kitchen?
I looked into something very similar, maybe it was the same lomi, some time ago. I recall walking away thinking that it's basically a dehydrator that chops your food up and dries it but doesn't actually decompose it. If I lived in an apartment with just a balcony garden and didn't have room for a compost pile, I'd still consider it, especially if I could blend the lomi "compost" in with whatever the plants had for "soil" in their pots, and then let nature take its course. But being as I have the room for a compost pile, I just pile scraps up and let it compost away. Since you've got some physical limitations, this Lomi might work well for you, but I'm guessing you'll still need to finish the lomi-compost before it's usable. I wouldn't consider it by itself one of your 5 sources of compost to start your MM, for instance. Just my 2 cents. HTH! :-)

All of the kitchen scraps that we have, including meat, dairy, and oils, goes into the Bokashi bucket. Once the Bokashi is finished with the fermentation process it is either dumped into the compost or buried in the garde, where it completely decomposes within 2 weeks. Note that I call is kitchen scraps and not waste - nothing is wasted from our kitchen.

Just pre-conditioning for the "real" pile
i would just use it for pre-conditioning for the "real" compost pile. It seems like it would reduce its attractiveness to varmints. I've got one coming so we'll see.
