I am setting up a garden to see how well it does just a block or so from the Texas bay front. I am setting up beds in my backyard but also have 2 beds as part of a library garden that I am eager to compare to the nearby raised beds that are not done with the SFG technique. I know most people don't use forums much anymore but I was happy to find this one as I don't have a FaceBook to join the groups there.

I have two 4x4 beds in the front that I would like to turn into a kitchen and a medicinal herb garden. And I am setting up two corner beds in the back that each have 3 4x4' areas that I would like to grow the bulk of our dinner vegetables. But I am a little overwhelmed trying to figure out what to plant where and when.

Welcome to the forum, Garden Fairy, from Ohio! It is important to start small, so you don't get overwhelmed with it and not be able to maintain the gardens. Figure out what you like to eat, and then start with those plants - no point in growing vegetables you don't really like just so you can say you grew them.

Hi Garden Fairy.  Welcome from Atlanta, GA!

OG is correct in that it's best to start small.  Keep notes on what does well, what doesn't, etc....

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm planning on starting with just a few crops at my home. I've done some gardens in the past but they weren't in raised beds. They did very well but when I moved to my present location, I've only had luck with the raised beds we started in the library a few years ago. But those didn't use Mel's mix or the spacing requirements so I'm interested to see how the two compare.
