Daylight Savings Time and gardening.
It's daylight savings time this weekend (Mar 14.) in the U.S., which means most of us (not you, AZ!) will be moving our clocks forward one hour. I'm a little worried about my plants -- they really like the morning sunlight!

Re: Daylight Savings Time and gardening.
Well, you know, back when I was a young'un being raised on a small dairy farm, the cows really didn't care whether it was daylight savings time, or not, they just wanted to be milked! So, our days always began an ended by the sun, not by the clock. And, since the chores always got finished at the same sun-time, the gardens & fields always got worked at the same time, too. They seemed to appreciate our dedication to being on time....

It's that special weekend again! Remember it's
Spring Forward, Fall Back!
Or was that "Fallover, Springbok!" ?

Don't forget it's daylight savings time. You spring forward, then you fall back. It is like us old people getting out of bed.

Anyone else beat the Snooze Button this morning besides me? It always takes a few days to reset.

Re: Daylight Savings Time and gardening.
I am too hyper and worried about gardening to get upset about a clock.
I'm worried about the CALENDAR and weather, starting seeds.
Finding seed potatoes. (Been reminding since Dec, find them and get them ordered...
I think the lesson was learned. We went all over town and only found some early's
at Walmart of all places. Realizing I am stressed, my son took over that job -- it was his
to begin with, but I was seeing no action other than reading online, lol -- and is
ordering them online if they'll ship in time.
Not my prob anymore as of today, but it takes awhile to get out of "find the
potato" mental mode, roflol. )
Let's see. Garden worries. Whether the direct-sow experiment of cabbage and beets
survived my forgetting to put the green house covers on. An inch on top of baby 1.5"
seedlings. One of our rare snows and 20F overnight temps
hit. (It's 60's again today. Sunny. Nice.)
The tree man didn't come today -- I think he punted because we require -- really
require -- proof of insurance, and will call to verify. So the trees are in the way of the garden beds.
I am not getting out there with a chainsaw.
Gardening should be fun, not stressful, I hear you. Deep breathing.
No reply necessary.
Like I say, I need to roll back a month!

Did you try Tractor Supply. That is where I get mine every year. They set them out on the shelves in Feb, mostly at the beginning of Feb.

Re: Daylight Savings Time and gardening.
Ty Yolos, yes, I went to Tractor Supply two weeks ago after a friend saw berries and potatoes the afternoon before... All gone. A local feed seed has and had some early varieties. I got some Feb 14? We wanted a storage late harvest potato... Another friend said try next county over, should have a white... Called this morning and they are sold out.
This has been the story around here since lockdown. Not much choice in transplants and not enough stock to meet demand. Maybe just my timing. Not the year with starting a new garden to be learning to start seeds but after two years not finding in stores....
Back to potatoes.
My son ordered today, a Carola? (I only heard and not sure if that's what I heard... I had sent him to woodprairie and they have that. But he was looking at other places. ) 45lbs!! I guess he can share locally if that's too many. Surely going to be a learning experience. I would have ordered a variety... Hedged my bets.

Re: Daylight Savings Time and gardening.
I usually cut up "eye" sections of store bought reds. This year, I added Yukon Gold seed potatoes from Home Depot which are suppose to grow in my latitude in CA. They are in a SFG bed in 7" of MM. A first for me as I usually plant in 5-gallon buckets. I like to try one new thing each year.
Good luck on the potatoes.
