Hello from New Member in Missouri
Hello,
I'm glad to have found you. I first read SFG book in my early 20s. I'm now 3 x that age, and getting back into vegetable gardening, with a few flowers thrown into the mix. I like the No Dig method, and still I think like a SF gardener!

Hi kmlpdr. Welcome from Atlanta, GA! Glad you've joined us...
Have you read the 3rd edition? It's gotten easier as it's updated!

Welcome to the group, Kmlpdr, from SW Ohio! Where are you located? I am also in Zone 6. We'd love to see pictures of your gardens, and hear about your favorite vegetables to grow.

Glad to hear! I used to live across the river from you, just south of Belleville, Illinois.

Re: Hello from New Member in Missouri

last time I checked under the covers, I'm growing lettuce mostly, some broccolli, kale, carrots, parsley, dill, thyme, and whatever else survives. I've started pepper seeds indoors, several varieties, as well as some other early things.
These are 30 inch rows, 12 foot long beds, surrounded by dug-in chicken wire to keep the rabbits out. To start these beds(2 years ago), I weed-whacked the grass to nubbins, and covered with compost. There was an additional flush of new grass through the compost, but a single weeding conquered all. One of the beds I put cardboard down first, and then the compost, and never had a weed or grass blade pop through. The hardest work was getting the chicken wire surround dug in.

Welcome KML, You can read either the 2nd or 3rd Edition of All New Square Foot Gardening for the raised bed method of SFG.
Re: Hello from New Member in Missouri
Thanks! I am a bit familiar. My first SFG was a raised bed in the parking lot of my first apartment. There was a wide strip of grass growing in the clay and rocks and debris, and I obtained permission to plant, and some free boards from a nearby construction dumpster. I also acquired bags of pretty well rotted horse manure from the mounted police at the local park. It was a perfect nearly free little 6 x 4 foot raised bed garden for single girl. I put up pickles and tomatoes and had lots of good food. That was 40ish years ago.I suppose I could raise bed my present garden, and that might help with the rabbits, but the chicken wire is working well, and my home's garden soil is extraordinarily rich to start with. Got lucky with that. Home builder did not sell the top soil and the area used to be a tree farm.
