First Timer from Western Shore of Chesapeake
I am a first time Gardner who purchased Mel’s Book three (3) years ago and never made the time to get started until COVID-19 took ended travel soccer.
So in search of inner peace during this time of uncertainty, my wife saw an advertisement that a local non-profit was selling raised bed frames from donated/ repurposed materials. The outfit is called Farming 4 Hunger and they have a story worth reading — couldn’t post the link because I am new to the forum. You can just google them. Anyway, these are the forces that combined to send me down the garden path.
My charitable donation resulted in two 8 by 4 frames which I have filled with Mel’s Mix and the adventure has begun. My family thinks I have gone CRAZY... and perhaps they are correct.
Looking forward to the encouragement and advice from so many who are so well qualified.
CHEERS!

Re: First Timer from Western Shore of Chesapeake
That is a great beginning, John! We'd love to see some pictures of your new garden beds. And, don't worry about others thinking you are crazy - as the old saying goes, "I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane".

"In short, the soil food web feeds everything you eat and helps keep your favorite planet from getting too hot. Be nice to it." ~ Diane Miessler, "Grow Your Soil"

John Erly, It looks like you are off to good start!
And, it's true, we do love photos of gardens.

Welcome to the forum, John!
What do you plan on putting in there? Lots of space! What do you like to eat? Any gardening history of any kind? You don’t need it at all!
Glad you found us, look forward to seeing your posts! Take notes, you will lear a lot. There are also Regional forums, with folks who experience similar struggles/weather, etc.
