Thinking of growing carrots in 6" of Mels Mix .Will only 6" of Mels Mix not deform the carrots? I know field carrots grow long . Please help. Thanks Gord.

Gord, unless you are growing just the short carrot varieties, you will probably want to add a Top Hat to the squares where you are planting carrot seeds. Check out this article about raising carrots in the SFG, including using a top hat.

This is useful to me as well, since I was wondering the same thing. I have lots of cedar pickets that could be used to build carrot tops.

Those would be some tough carrot tops! LOL Kidding, just kidding. I know you mean top hats. Just couldn't resist.

There are shorter varieties. I grow Little Fingers, Babette and Tendersweet (7") in a regular bed.
