Good day to Y'all, From SW Florida.
Hello everyone,
I've been gardening various odds and ends for years now. Technically I guess I started around age 7... Normally I keep at least some Herbs going for the kitchen, but sometimes I do up a veggie garden. I have MANY various hobbies and don't want to spend all my free time just doing stuff for one of them.
For gardening I've done all kinds of methods, traditional row garden's, container garden's, a few grid systems including square foot, and square yard.
This year (January - ish) I decided to use the landscaping spaces in front of my house to do a larger Herb and veggie garden. And since have added a raised bed to the side of the house, with plans to add two other beds in the next month or so. One to improve an "island" of palm trees in the front yard, the other for my more "medicinal" Herbs.
I do not strictly follow any one method for growing things, as I've found different things do well with different methods. And here in SW Florida, a lot of the information for a given plant needs a little adjustment to do well, for example: "full sun required" ain't full sun here for many plants - they'll end up getting sunburned...
Here's a few early shots of the landscaping areas:

Re: Good day to Y'all, From SW Florida.
Welcome, Savlaka! Great pics. Thanks for sharing.
Many of us here use different gardening methods, including containers, Back To Eden, and the old sfg, but the ANSFG is the mainstay of the forum.
I had to learn that one the hard way. Turns out the vast majority of gardening info is written for the northeast and middle of the country. Here, in Northern California, if I gave anything "6 hours of full sun" I'd have nothing left but crispy leaf chips in less than a day during the summer.Savlaka wrote:And here in SW Florida, a lot of the information for a given plant needs a little adjustment to do well, for example: "full sun required" ain't full sun here for many plants - they'll end up getting sunburned...

Welcome to the board from Ohio, Savlaka! Glad to have you here! You are right about growing conditions being completely different for different regions of the country. I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi for a few years, and I had to learn a totally different way of gardening.
Be sure to check out the regional forums for the southern states, where members from those areas can share experiences with similar growing conditions. The regional forum for Coastal & Tropical South might be the best for you, but check out the others as well.

Thanks Y'all.
@countrynaturals
Yeah I found this forum searching for specific plants # per square foot, I do use a lot of the info from the Square foot gardening books. And my raised bed is being done about 70% in that style.
@OhioGardener
Thanks, I'll look into the regional section.

Hiya, Savlaka! Welcome to the forum from a South Florida native-transplanted into Northern New Hampshire (don't ask me how that works). Whereabouts are you? SW as in Redlands? Or across the alley in Naples? Either way your gardens look GREAT!!!
P.S. I just wanted to say "across the alley". It's been a long time since I said that. ;-)
