Lemon Cucumber? HELP!
Lemon Cucumber? HELP!
Katie's favorite crop is lemon cucumber. I thought I had plenty of seed, but I don't have any and I promised!
Baker Creek has nothing. Anybody have just a few (3-6) that you could send me? I'll send a SASE. I can also swap for who knows what. I have lots of other cucumber varieties.

Do they taste like lemon, or only lemon shaped?

Only lemon shaped. The flavor is sweet and mild. I can't tell it from any other cuke.@Scorpio Rising wrote:Do they taste like lemon, or only lemon shaped?
What I love is that they're a perfect compliment to my Armenians. The Armenians (long) love the heat and produce all summer. The lemon cukes prefer cooler weather, so they pick up in the fall, when the cold nights kill off the Armenians.
Re: Lemon Cucumber? HELP!
I grew them several years ago and they came out kind of weirdly salty. I suppose a reaction my neo-saline so-called soil. After that I couldn't get them to grow again.@countrynaturals wrote:Only lemon shaped. The flavor is sweet and mild. Thanks, both! I was curious, I have seen folks growing those here from time to time. My absolute fave cuke is Beit Alpha (eating type). Skin is super thin, no spines, great producer. I ran out of seeds last year and subbed Muncher—nope. Although I liked Muncher, it didn’t produce for me, and didn’t have great fruit size...got more of my faves!

Re: Lemon Cucumber? HELP!
Yesterday I was looking through the seed box looking for Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce, and discovered an old package of Lemon Cucumber seeds. Don't remember ever getting those, but the package said they were packed for the year 2013. Decided to germination test a few of the seeds to see if they'll still grow. If they do, I might plant a few this year and see what they are like.
Never plant without a bucket of compost at your side.
