I love heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables, and was fascinated to see this article about a group that searches for apple varieties that have been thought to be extinct, and found 10 such varieties this year. My experience has been that the heirloom varieties tend to survive the various diseases and freak weather storms better than the newer hybrid varieties. So, I always enjoy seeing "new" heirloom varieties being discovered.
