It has been a long time since I posted
Just wanted to say hi to everyone on the forum. No garden for me this year. I'm stuck in Palawan. Philippines for the duration. Under lockdown quarantine and can't leave. I came 1 Dec to offer babysitting service and support while my son undergoes lung cancer treatment. He has had 6 sessions of chemo and immuno/therapy since mid Nov and started 30 days of radiation treatment last Friday. He had to fly to Cebu for treatment and had just finished up the chemo when they announced the discontinuation of all passenger flights. He and his wife managed to get on the next to last plane out of Palawan a week earlier than he needed to be in Cebu, but he is there and under treatment. The entire country is on lockdown. Each household has been issued a quarantine pass as long as nobody is PUI ( person under investigation) and 1 person can leave the house at a time for food, medicine, banking and such. Our household consisted of the 10yo grandson and the 18yo college student brother of my DIL until the quarantine started. At that time my DIL's mother and 14 yo sister joined us to help out, cook and keep house. I needed the local expertise. Supermarkets are open and they are restricting the number of people allowed in at a time. The open air local market has special hours according to which section of town issued the pass. Our hours are 5am-11am. This is to prevent crowding at the stalls. I have only gone out to renew my visa and get money from the ATM machine as over 60 are not supposed to leave the house. We let the 18 yo do the marketing. Which means of course that I'm eating local dishes and a lot of rice. Daily update

So quarantine is working so far on this island. My ticket home is for 25 May but who knows if the airports will reopen by then.
All I have going is 12 kale plants in 1 gal bags that really don't like it here. Started seeds 1st week of Dec and transplanted to some local potting mix mid Jan. Plants are still not eating size unless I pull the entire plant.
Oh yes, I had my left knee replaced on Oct 1st about the same time my son got his lung news. That delayed my ability to fly out to Philippines until Dec. Had to have intensive P/T to get ready. I think it is doing like it is supposed to, but I had to skip the Feb check up. Doctor didn't like it but he ok'd the travel and told me to come in as soon as I get back to the US.
