Does anyone know how much it cost per square foot for square foot gardening,not counting lumber ?Just Mel's Mix,in U S fund or Can.Thanks Gord.Bye Bye.

Currently, the best price I know of for vermiculite is through Amazon. That's $37 for 4 cubic feet.
Locally, I can get sphagnum moss for $13 for 3 cubic feet. For a 4x4 SFG, you need 2.66 CF of
each ingredient. That works out to a pro-rated cost of $25 for vermiculite and $11.52 for the
moss. I'm assuming you have your own compost, which will be free. If you have to buy your
own compost, that will change the calculations.

So the total cost per square foot comes out to about $2.25. However, Mel uses an actual
size for boards in his calculation of 6 inches. The actual physical size of the boards that I've
been able to find are 5.5". So I always have a surplus of MM leftover. If you subtract 10%
for that, then the cost per SF is closer to $2.05 .

These are just my numbers. I could have made a horrific mistake somewhere. Your mileage may vary ...

Alert! This week you can get vermiculite for $23 per 4CF from AM Leonard with free shipping IF ordering more than $99 worth of goods.
Caveat -- total weight has to be under 120 lbs. So you can't order more than about 5 bags with this deal.
