Keep Birdbath Clean

Keep Birdbath Clean
I have a birdbath on the balcony for decoration. I've never seen a bird in it. The water gets nasty and it's a pain to clean out. Could I put just a drop or 2 of chlorine bleach in it every couple of days to keep it nice or is it not worth the risk in case a bird does come around? (It holds about a gallon of water.)
Re: Keep Birdbath Clean
I have a now unused bird bath that used to have a solar operated fountain. I would spray some bleach at night when algae started growing. Periodically, I would tip and wash well with the hose. The solar panel quit after 2-3 months.
