BEETS!
Look... my beets are growing!!! The Parisian carrots are still bitties, but oh the beets! I feel like I should break into a round of Killer Tofu! (Says the woman who never grew anything from seed that worked). I did get my deck boxes planted with lettuce seeds since I have lots of shade on the deck. Of course, right now it looks like a box of dirt, but give it a couple of weeks.

Well done Pika girl!
it feels so good to be a first time plant mama!
Planted out a bunch more cucumber starts in hopes of thwarting the slugs this time. Also, divided the Tromboncino and Delicata squash babies. There are so many of them, and I just couldn't let any go, so they may be too close together but they can work it out.
Cold and drizzly the last couple of days so it was perfect for doing what I had to do. Plus it washed a lot of the pine pollen away, thank goodness. Poor Miss Lilly is yellow.

Sun comes out tomorrow for a few days.

Yay, pika! I am trying a golden beet this year, I am not a big fan of some of the deep red earthy flavor (dirt, you say?). I hope I like them, I do like pickled beets, so may do a Fall crop of the more sturdy red or Chiogga.

My "cheater" garden
I'm calling this my "cheater" garden as I bought the plants - not seedlings or seeds. The people who owned the house before us left behind this ceramic planter. It's an awkward size, so I built a platform by cutting up old seedling trays, placed a plastic seedling pot in the center and a PVC tube, covered it with landscape fabric and poured in my soil to make a self-waterer. (Hooray for youtube and Pinterest) We'll see if it works, but now I have that, two patio tomato plants and a window box of lettuce I'm growing from seed in my "garden annex" on the deck outside my kitchen.

Nice, Pika, I am getting ready to make massive pesto this weekend because my basil has gone bonkers! (Yay!)
