[ltr]I do the old square foot garden method now where you mix your native soil with different compost and amendments. I do this method because I have many, many beds. This way My soil grows instead of shrank like it did when I did the new square foot garden method. That method is a soilless medium and the healthy microbes become so aggressive it would shrink 6-12 inches each season per bed. So it required buying compost or making a large amount of compost to rebuild my medium for my many beds each season or year. It was too laborious and time-consuming. I wanted to do other things with my life. The NSFG process is excellent and strongly recommended with a few beds because it doesn’t require much time, but not if you have many beds. Now if I was retired that might be a different story. I like square foot garden because it's quick and I don’t have to fight the weeds, esp since I put wood chips down as my walkway. I have to replenish them every few years. Also, I have slowly been raising the beds to waist high so the grass is not an issue anymore. I have learned alot from the great leaders here and I have done a lot of silly things, but I try to keep it fun whether it's simple or nerdy.[/ltr]

More winter experiments. the doors swing open, but I had to bend down. It works well. is self vented so I didn’t have to run out and open the doors when it got too hot. The vents open at 55 degrees and close at 50.

I begin to learn how to use the snap clamps on 1”PVC pipe filled with rocks and attached it to the plastic covering or insect covering. This way I didn’t have to pull off bricks and the wind couldn’t blow it away. I simply lift up the pipe get my food and place it back on the ground. the sides were of two to three smaller cuts so when I lifted the pipe they would collapse or fold allowing the long bar to go to the other side or position on the top of the hoops.

I'm having the same problem with the old way. I think it's because I used so much yard waste and wood chips when I started, to fill the bottom 3' of my waist-high beds, that a foot of shrinkage each year will just be my lot in life for awhile. Rolling Eyes

Wow, is all I can say. I don't have more than 7 squares and they are all very simple.  Living in the north says, "stay in the house after November". I looked at all that you have done and I am amazed.
