Hello from Italy
Hello,
my name is Giulio, I'm planning to arrange a SFG for my family veggy needs in our southern facing garden, I think my space is quite decently sized to make several beds, but my area is quite dry in summer.
Thanks for any help I'll receive here.

Welcome from Ohio, U.S., Dan! There are a lot of avid gardeners here that love sharing information on what works, and what does not work for them. Check out the many posts on the forums, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Re: Hello from Italy
Giulio. I garden in a dry area, too. Our water bill jumps from $23 a month in the winter to over $100 a month in July and August. I definitely don't save any money by growing my own veggies.

Giulio, Welcome to the Forum for Central California!
I also live in a Mediterranean climate and water is precious. I cover the beds with chopped bedding straw (not hay) to reduce surface evaporation and to keep the Mel's Mix cool.
You may want to read these two threads from our Europe sub-forum. Prince Zoe moved to Italy near Como Lake (?) https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t17037-sfg-in-amsterdam-nieuw-west

Welcome, Giulio! Glad you are here! There are many ways to work with your environment and weather to make SFG successful!
Have you read any of Mel Bartholomew’s books? They are a helpful start! Also, is our searchable archive in the upper left-hand corner.

Just curious as to where in Italy are you located? My father's family is from San Vito sullo Ionio.

Re: Hello from Italy
Wow, that's a warm welcome, thanks a lot.
It must really be the friendliest forum around.
I'm based in Sardinia island, we have here beautiful sea, and I live on the mountains, with a gorgeous scenery. I'll definitely post photos as I go along.
Mel's book should arrive by mail on Thursday, but I'm tingling as the growing season has just started and I need to get things sorted very soon.

And helpful too.
Funny story about Sardinia (at least it's funny to me):Don Giulio wrote:I'm based in Sardinia island, we have here beautiful sea, and I live on the mountains, with a gorgeous scenery. I'll definitely post photos as I go along.
Growing up I was always told we were from Sicily...So I grew up thinking, Hey I'm Sicilian and Sicilians are tough...think Cosa Nostra! Then I did some genealogy and found out my ancestors were from San Vito...a quick google search and I find San Vito on Sardinia. In my mind I'm thinking "I go from being a tough Sicilian to being a Sardine!!!"
