Hello,  I am a "newbie" just learning about gardening, raised bed, square foot gardening, using coir pellets vs peat pellets for starter soil to start seeds and everything else that goes with gardening.

Hi Deb and welcome the forum from Ottawa, Canada. Always nice to have new people joining us. We recommend reading the All New Square Foot Gardening book by Mel Bartholomew. Please feel free to ask questions and seek advice here on the forum.  We like photos as well so please show us you progress as you go.

Hi Deb, Welcome to the Forum from the Central Valley! glad you\'re here As Trolleydriver stated, we recommend that anyone who wants to do SFG read the book, All New Square Foot Gardening, 1st, 2nd or 3rd Edition. What area of high desert? What are the weather highs and lows? If the temps get over 100*F, you should plan for shade cloth to keep the plants alive until fall when they come alive and usually have a second flush of produce.

Hi Deb. Welcome from Atlanta, GA!

I have used pellets for seed starting before. But ended up using Mel's Mix long term.

Plan on taking a LOT of notes this first year. And have fun!!
