Beginning to see the outline of the 4x4 beds.

I posted this photo on Facebook and one of my friends replied, "I'm always amazed at what you produce from those small squares of soil."  Had to explain that it is not "soil".

Also did some more Winter Sowing.  Currently have a total of 21 containers outside with mostly flower seeds and a few veggies.

CC ... the problem with retirement is that you think you will have more time available.  NOT.  Especially as I age there are more medical appointments, etc. and I have less energy and it takes me much longer to do things.

On another subject I just received an email from the Old Farmers Almanac which has a list of things to start indoors and outdoors for my area. I had to laugh about planting outside at this point in time. It's not going to happen under all that snow we still have not to mention the MM which will be frozen.

Sow under cover or indoors:
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage (Summer)
Cauliflower
Eggplant
Leek
Lettuce (Leaf)
Onion
Peas
Pepper
Swiss Chard
Tomato (Large)

Sow outdoors or plant out:
Brussels Sprouts
Cauliflower
Lettuce (Leaf)
Onion

Melting snow and record overnight rainfall on top of frozen ground is causing flooding in our neighbour's yard and into our backyard.Fifth Year SFG in Canada - Page 4 Img_2406Fifth Year SFG in Canada - Page 4 Img_2407fc

It's in the middle of the back of the yard. The SFG starts about 3 feet to the right of the second picture. Thankfully there is no flooding in the SFG.

Got my shelving and lights in place for my indoor starts. Also got some more Winter Sowing containers outside for a total of 36.  I was aiming for 50 containers but I am behind on both indoor and Winter Sowing.

The snow and ice are almost all gone. The warmer temperatures and rain over the next couple of days should finish it off.

Although there is still ice in the goldfish pond, I was able to turn on the pump and get the small waterfall flowing yesterday.

I am now up to 43 winter sowing containers outside and still pushing for 50.

So true but I create a lot  of work for her with these starts which she has to transplant.

I am now up to 50 WS containers outside. There are 18 with veggie seeds and the rest are flowers. Think I may try for 60 after Easter.

The weather is improving so I was able to get out to the veggie garden and remove most of the straw mulch from the garlic beds in the SFG. There are still patches of thick ice under the straw. I was happy to see the rhubarb (not in the SFG) showing signs of life.

First garlic shoots are up and strawberry plants are showing new growth in the Square Foot Garden. As well, the first flower is showing in the front yard. Lovely sunny day ... shorts weather.
