Let me know if you find something that works to keep critters out of your corn. Some critter (probably raccoon) just took a bite out of almost all ears of corn in my first planting. Jerks.

Transplanted the corn today. Covered with chicken wire cage which will stop birds but not smaller four leggers. Season wise it is way behind but let's see what happens.

Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
TD, Good to hear from you. Your garden is looking good. I'm looking forward to some vacation photos with Mrs. TD and your sister.
Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
Aren’t the berries amazing? This was my first year to harvest, too...wow. Made 2 batches of freezer jam. Unbelievable. Would have had another batch except I couldn’t get out ther (underwater) for a middle part of June.

Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
Yesterday my (half) sister returned to the UK after three weeks with us here in Canada. We had never met before. It was an amazing time.
Now it is time to get back to gardening. I harvested Sugar Snap and Snow Peas today. I think this year's pea harvest is the best ever. Also starting to see some small tomatoes.

Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
It's amazing to me that you can grow both cold weather (peas) and hot weather (tomatoes) at the same time.
Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
Congrats on the peas, TD.sanderson wrote:It's amazing to me that you can grow both cold weather (peas) and hot weather (tomatoes) at the same time.
I'm still getting sugar snap peas and I've had long beans for about 3 weeks. I think I'd better collect seeds to make sure I keep these hardy varieties for next year.
Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
Usually my peas do not grow well because we go quickly from Spring frost to Summer heat. This year we had an extended cool wet Spring before the heat arrived. As well even when we have hot days it usually cools off in the night which helps.sanderson wrote:It's amazing to me that you can grow both cold weather (peas) and hot weather (tomatoes) at the same time.

Thanks.sanderson wrote: Are most perennials? Ab-so-lute-ly beautiful.
Mix of annuals and perennials but the latter take up most of the real estate.
The last two photos show an annual mix. They were grown from a "tape of seeds" bought at the dollar store, rolled out and covered with a thin layer of soil.

Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
AWESOME! My fave is the one that shows the path. I'm right there, slowly making my way through.
Re: Fifth Year SFG in Canada
1. I like to see the pollinators such as this bee in the garden.
2. Getting lots of Ronde de Nice Squash.
3. I started a new compost pile on my newest SoilSaver bin and it is cooking away nicely at 140 Fahrenheit.
4. Harvested cucumbers, sugar snap and snow peas from the SFG. Also raspberries from another part of the garden.
