New guy from North Jersey, USA. First SF Garden.
Hey All,
Well on my way with my first SF garden. I have one 4'x4' which is 75% filled with marigolds, 3 varieties of tomatoes, basil which is beginning to bolt so it's ready for harvest & 2nd planting, and finally, peppers. My 2nd 4'x4' is not yet filled with soil mix as I had a health mishap 2 weeks ago which slowed my progress. I intend to put lettuce, spinach and arugula in the 2nd 4'x4'. Man, I'm a fool for fresh arugula!! So far, so good. My immediate priority is putting together some movable hardware cloth protective covering to prevent feeding the neighborhood critters.
I started all my plants indoors from seed and could not believe how they "took off" once reaching their final destination in Mel's Mix. Additionly, I have a grow type bag of carrots, a grow type basket of beets and 3 grow bags of white potatoes of which only 2 have sprouted so far. I'm enjoying the heck out of my new hobby and am looking forward to enjoying a great harvest. My first season at this is teaching me some valuable lessons which I will certainly apply to next Spring's planting.
Regards,
Tommyboy

Tommy!
Sounds like your weather is a bit warmer than mine. Post pics when you get a chance.
Oh, what is a 'grow type' bag or basket?

CC, Not so warm here April or May. June following suit so far.
An old basket lined inside with landscape cloth and an old
dairy basket lined with landscape cloth. Will be happy to
post photos soon as I figure out how.
Tommyboy.

Tommy,boy,
It great that you are doing Sq Ft Gardening! I live in central NJ and I have to say my lettuce is growing the best it ever did since we have gotten a lot of rain.
If you have any questions, there are many people on the forum that are willing to assist.

Hi Tommy, Welcome to the Forum from California. You will learn a lot in your first year. I recommend that you keep a journal and read it this winter. Take photos of your journey. I hope this thread helps you with posting photos. And, we do love photos.
