Hello from Laura Bartholomew
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laura Bartholomew. I am Mel's daughter-in-law. When I first met my husband Steve (Mel's eldest son) we both worked in an advertising firm. That was in 1986. Steve told me about how he had produced Mel's PBS television show "Square Foot Gardening". I didn't really understand what Mel was all about, and his method, and how far reaching Square Foot Gardening was until many years later.
After meeting Mel way back then, I knew he was a unique person. He had a way of making people laugh, while teaching them something new, and getting them to do things for him! We lost him in April of 2016, and I never cease to think of him almost daily and how he left his mark on this world.
Steve and I have had many challenges moving Square Foot Gardening Foundation forward. It's not every day someone leaves you a legacy of helping to end world hunger. We are striving to learn what this gardening world has been up to (especially SFGers) after raising four beautiful children.
We thank you all for your dedication, perseverance, and loyalty to Mel, his method and his mission. Your stories are uplifting and your questions are so helpful to all gardeners.
We would like to have a special shout out to Sanderson for all of her dedication and knowledge of all things Square Foot Gardening.
Bless you all and "Happy Gardening!"

Re: Hello from Laura Bartholomew
Hi, Laura
It's good to see you on the Forum. And, thank you for your comment. I'm sure you are referring to the other site where people are all over the board on what they think is SFG.

Re: Hello from Laura Bartholomew
Hi Laura. Thank you for the update. Know that we're working to keep spreading "the word." :-)
Re: Hello from Laura Bartholomew
Hi Laura from Ottawa, Canada. Thank you for your comments and encouragement. We are proud and happy SFGers following in Mel's footsteps. As well, our sanderson does a great job on the forum and through the wonderful example she shows to us through her own successful SFG garden.

Re: Hello from Laura Bartholomew
Wow! Welcome, Laura! So glad you chimed in on this forum! I actually did the original SFG back in the late 80s early 90s with much success, after watching that very show on PBS that your husband produced. Now I have 3 boxes and a few containers with Mel's Mix in them, and have enjoyed every minute (OK< well MOST minutes LOL) of this SFG journey.

Me too. I'm still old school and have my SFG book within reach at all times.Scorpio Rising wrote:I actually did the original SFG back in the late 80s early 90s with much success.

Thank you!
So nice to hear from you all! We still have a lot to learn since our first garden back in 1990. When we moved we left it behind:/ This is the first year we started our SFG again in many years and...success! We are very happy to say that we love Mel's Mix, Method, Mission and the Man!
Great hearing from you SFGers, it keeps us going:)
