Garden in Springtime

Okay, could of sworn I did this last night but due to exhastion and an irrate husband I may of just dreamed it.

It only took 5 months, lots of griping, sweating, cursing, and why did I ever let you talk me into this. Me, I thought it was fun . I'm getting a blog going (eventually) so I'll have more of the story there.

So I have three 4x4 squares of lovely cinder block, thats another story, with fresh from the local river cut bamboo tied with lovely red twine straight from the horses hay bale. Well, one of them is, the other I haven't tied yet and the third I need to go down and get more bamboo. The four blue buckets contain my tomatoes as they take up to much space in the square foot. The "trellis" is from a crib my sister was tossing. Also tied together with handy dandy twine. I love twine. It was originally going to span the garden, but I forgot and planted on the other side, so now the beans are going to have to go outward.
Okay here they are.

Its absolutely gorgeous !!! I love the cinder blocks :-D The extra holes could be like for tiny herbs or a lettuce that is just so smart. And the crib !!!! That is so slick it gives such a nice look to it. We too like to use stuff we can get our hands on, we miss having bailing wire :-D We dont buy hay anymore so there isnt even the twine now. I ran out of milled lumber and we have some logs laying down from my previous garden area, I had my son cut them down the middle to use as borders to some beds I had babied the soil. I need to take pictures of those they aren't all done yet.

Thanks, and the herbs are a great idea, didn't even think about it. Right now I just have nasturims, marigolds and an unknown flower. Well technically I should know but I planted and didn't label my seedlings so Im unsure.

Oh man how many times didnt I label ? lololol its ok but the idea for companion flowers is even greater !! I have nasturtium in a peat pot a few of them actually, their home is waiting for them. And its raining cant do a thing today. Here I sit wanting to be in the garden.

I am eagerly awaiting my own nasturtiums. I planted two squares from seed, only one plant has come up so far but it seems to be doing fine, it's starting in on true leaves already.

I love the trellis. I wanted to do something like that so my vines could go up over and down but haven't figured out a way I can afford it right now. Very cool.

The cinder blocks actualy look very neat and have the added bonus that they do not rot. Do plant the holes with herbs or just annuals - or even perennials. It could look really cool.

Right now it smells like honeysuckle.... absolutly heavenly. If I were a plant I'd be a squash, I need a lot of room to grow.

I'm glad i came across this post. I was about to go out and buy wood to start my first 3 - 4x4 SFQs. I hadn't thought of using cinderblock. I have a ton of cinderblock lying around. Thanks so much

You can thank the Hubby... me I was going to slap some boards together we had lying around. It was a lot of work as he didn't want the blocks moving. We put them on a cement pad, only where the blocks are, and I had him drill drain holes on the botton so I could plant in the concrete squares too!!

Thanks!! I'm growing the basics right now, lettuce, broccoli, beans, carrots, radish, bak choy, peppers, tomatoes, and then the squash and melons, and hopefully a cucumber, I was very unorganized with my seedlings.
