garden ready need better weather
The beds are ready just waiting for some warmer weather, Saturday was 74 out next day 39 and snow calling for rain all week and 40 degree days. These are my beds 4 new ones and 4 from last year.
this years new beds I used 1cf of chicken manure, 1cf of cow manure,1cf of worm castings, and one cf of ecoscraps, along with 3 cu of peat moss and 1.5 cf of vermiculite.
for last years beds on mixed up 1 cf of the following= chicken manure, cow manure, worm castings, ecoscraps. last year these beds were Kellogg's stuff wondering if I need to add more to these. with this mixture and using a 5 gallon bucket I was able to fill a total of 5 of them one bucket per box.

That is one exceptional garden. You should be proud, and if weather is your only impediment, you should consider yourself fortunate.

Re: garden ready need better weather
thanks everyone ,like i said i need better weather so i can put in grids and plant. It is hard to do when they are calling for a high of 37 tomorrow and rain for the next few days.long range forecast is not much better.
so am i'm ok with the compost in my old beds or add some more i have 2- 50 pound bags of black kow left and can pick up some of the other compost still. Is 1 and a half cubic feet of vermiculite good for my new beds i have a few 1.5 cf bags left thank you .

Blue, Did you already add more compost to the older beds? Each year or seasonal planting, add more compost.
If the beds already have 1/3 vermiculite, I would hold on to those bags. You never know what pot, bucket or tote you may want to fill with MM.

yes i have added one 5 gallon bucket of a mix of ,chicken manure, black kow, ecoscraps and worm castings to my older beds. i put in 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 peat moss last year along with Kellogg brand not the greatest stuff that's why i was wondering if i need more compost in these older beds they are one year old. these are 6 feet by 4 feet by 8 inches deep.
my new beds only have 1.5 cf of vermiculite wondering if i need to add more these beds are 2 beds 4x4x8 inches deep and 2 beds 5x3x8 inches deep. used 1/3 compost in these beds of above compost
weather today steady rain and 36 degrees

Re: garden ready need better weather
I hear ya on the weather! Up here in Idaho Falls I planted carrots, lettuce, kale and spinach last Saturday. This week, cold, rainy with snow for two days and not above 45! At least the snow didn't hang around! I over heard a gal tell a new comer at work today, "Welcome to Idaho! Where you can enjoy all four seasons! In the SAME day!"
Wife's aunt told her they had three inches of ICE in Minnesota! Meanwhile in Florida my sister is complaining of record heat and humidity!

That's about the size of it! Let the pups out this AM and was greeted by snow on the porch, porch rails and cars! As the sun came up it did accumulate a bit on the grass!sanderson wrote:Hope this works. https://www.facebook.com/funtrest.media/videos/995578337245505/

Re: garden ready need better weather
Blue, If you added at least 2" of mixed composts, it should be good. Hope this helps answer the question.
