Dietary Supplements
The interwebs are a beautiful thing. You can find information and videos on just about anything imaginable these days. BUT, with that also comes risk. Seems just about anyone can become an expert on all things in just a very short amount of time, a youtube video or two, and a little digging.
I always suggest being responsible for yourself and fully research any subject or interest or claims made on the internet. There are REAL professionals for good reason. I myself (as a master plumber) have repaired many a weekend warrior mistake! We have tradesmen for a reason.
We have doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals for a reason.
Do your homework!
Dietary supplements. I'm no expert by any means. I would think with a proper diet, your body would typically get the nutrition it needs to be healthy. Isn't that the way it should work lol? I honestly don't know!
What I do know is my wife has me take the following on a daily basis:
- Omega 3-6-9 soft gels (that are about the size of a football!)
-Super B-Complex
-Ginko Biloba (trendy lol)
-Vitamin D-3
In addition to that, I also take about 5 grams a day of Creatine monohydrate in hope that it lives up to the many claims it makes.

On my general prationer doctor's advice I take
- Omega 3 (the football size)
- cod liver oil (also football size)
- calcium
- vitamin D3
- vitamin B12
And with my urologist's approval, a supplement for the prostate.

Re: Dietary Supplements
Just the issue is they are unregulated, so who knows what is or isn't in them....reputable companies I think do a good job. Only thing I take now winter is D3. In the past, I have taken krill oil Mega 3....and magnesium. Sometimes melatonin...

Yes, I fully agree! I believe the body was made to heal itself when it is fuel properly. I haven't been to a doctor in about 30 years until this year. I decided I'd better get my hip replaced before Insurance went sky-high so I joined the insurance plan at work. I've been poked, prodded, bled, wired, x-rayed, scanned, everything. All results came back saying I was in perfect condition with the exception of the missing cartilage in one hip and being 1 point low on the sodium. So I guess I have to eat more chips. Actually, doc said stop drinking so much water.
Anyway, surgery is this Wednesday. A week before surgery I had to stop taking most of my supplements but this is the list of what I normally take.
krill oil
D3
glucosamine chondroitin with MSM
St John's Wort during the winter
kelp
CoQ10
And, in lieu of supplements, the morning green smoothie has hefty doses of tumeric, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, matcha, hemp or pea protein powder and chia.
If/ when I feel something coming on l down crushed fresh garlic, like swallowing a goldfish, few times a day. I also have a bottle of garlic supplements at the office and take a few throughout the day if someone comes to work sick.
