Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Well Ryan you are a neighbor just north of us and I am sure that ended ya peppers unless ya have them very well covered. We hoped they would survive with a garbage bag over them but alas it dont look like it. uncovered them this morning and they look very weepy.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Our pomegranate tree is a miniature and young we got 1 fruit offn it and are hoping for more in the future.Mean time our naval oranges after having a couple cold nights are now at their peak of sweetness. We slick them into 8ths and put them in a bowl and every once in a while we grab an orange smiley das what we call them cause das what they look like we had 6 today and will for a couple weeks they are amazing. Only thing from the boxes is lettuce from the salad box and a couple radishes from the garden box

Well that reminds me. We also have been harvesting naval oranges, grapefruit and lemons and limes and cara cara oranges. I get so used to this abundance I forget to say anything about it.

Crockpot marinara sauce pulled out of the deep freeze. Then discovered another bag of tomatoes that were simply thrown in a bender raw and put into freezer bags. Not sure I even remember doing that, yet there it was. Heated together with the crockpot marinara and finished cooking meatballs with it. Delish.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Last night, broccoli and cauliflower "cabbage" rolls with my frozen tomato sauce, last of the kitchen ripened sun gold tomatoes, dried herbs and powdered garlic. Snacking on snow peas, purple cauliflower and green broccoli.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I DID THE EXACT SAME THING! I had frozen baggies of marinara, and baggies that just said tomatoes.....so I must have run out of steam at the end of the tomato season and just put them all in the crock, tomatoes only, and did one last batch of...tomatoes! LOL! That is funny!llama momma wrote:Crockpot marinara sauce pulled out of the deep freeze. Then discovered another bag of tomatoes that were simply thrown in a bender raw and put into freezer bags. Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Pulled the last 2 little pear tomatoes. Gave one to DH and the other to Katie. I got the previous 2, when I gutted them for seeds and ate the rest. I don't ever want to be without these babies again. The plants are great long-term producers, but only a few at a time, so I think I'll have 3 plants going at once from now on.

The rabbit will be eating radish tops. Does that count?

With this group? Yes.
Last night, sauteed bok choy with vinegar and orange slices with an entree.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
The other day I salvaged a radicchio that had regrown from its stump, that I had tossed a 5-gallon bucket over the top of to try to give some cold protection. There was definitely cold/moisture damage, and it was a salvage job, but a worthwhile one in terms of volume and flavor. Next year's plan has more radicchio for fall/winter on-purpose, with proper winter protection.
I also ate my two kohlrabi a few weeks ago. They were nice and sweet, but the Indian recipe I used them for hid their flavor rather than show-casing them, so I won't be making that one again.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
First baby carrot. It was just a bite, but it was good enough that I will plant them again.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
The sweet potatoes. Peeling them showed that what I thought were deep bug tunnels, didn't go far below the surface of the skin. They taste a little better than the ones from the store (so I must have cured/aged them properly ), but not tasty enough to make up for the small harvest. I'll try growing them again once I move somewhere with more sunny gardening space. This coming season Burpee's butterbush (miniature butternut squash for container growing) will get the Earthtainer (large sub-irrigated planter) instead.
