Thank you for your patience.  I only have the side-by-side freezer so canning is best for me space wise.  When I get home to my PC I will do a little forum search and see if my questions have already been answered.

Finally had a chance to get back in the garden today.  I harvested my 4 Beauregard Sweet Potato plants today.  I planted them on 5/2.  I  could have waited a few more weeks before harvesting but I have found if I wait too long they get too big.  I prefer the taters to be medium size so I usually harvest a few weeks early.  This is the harvest from 4 plants.  I still have quite a few volunteer sweet potatoes growing throughout the garden that I will harvest later.

That's great.  How much space/many squares did the 4 plants take up and how deep are the beds you grew them in?

The end of my summer harvest.  The Sweet Potatoes I am letting cure in my living room.  The other three boxes are cowpeas - Pinkeye Purple Hull Cowpea, White Acre Cowpea, Lady Cowpea.  I usually harvest them fresh from the vine but things got in the way this summer and I just let them sit on the vine until they were dried.  I harvested them just before the rains from Nate (5 inches) hit our area.  I have them sitting in my living room waiting  until they are completely dry and I will then shell them, cook them, and then freeze the cooked peas in Foodsaver Bags.

Me too! Yolos, are these what I would consider as black-eyed peas?

No they are not black eyed peas but they are very similar.  Southern growers that I know mostly think black eyed peas are the bottom of the barrel.  But the Black eyed peas are considered Southern Cowpeas.  Most all gardeners I talk to do not grow the black eyed peas but prefer Pinkeye Purple Hull cowpeas.  Last year I also started growing Lady cowpeas and White Acre cowpeas.

If you try the Pinkeye Purple Hull cowpeas then the best variety to get is Top Pick.  Top Pick do not have long runners and the peas set pretty much on the top of the plant.  I have heard that Quick Pick are similar to the Top Pick but I have not grown the Quick Pick.  I still have some 2015 Top Pick Pinkeye Purple Hull cowpeas if anyone in a long warm climate would like to try them.  I hope they are still viable.  They sprouted real well this summer so I suppose they are still viable.

Here is a picture of my Top Pick Pinkeye Purple Hull cowpeas growing in the garden.

Here is what a mess of fresh Pinkeye Purple Hull peas look like.
brooks GA - 2017 SFG in Brooks, Ga - Page 7 Peph_h10

This year my garden got away from me and I only harvested a few dinners of the fresh peas.  This year the harvest was predominately dried peas (see below).

They look like bush rather than trellis?? Would a 2' x 4' box work, or two 2' x 4' boxes? Planted 9/sq? I would love to try them. Is there anything you would like in exchange or postage cost at least?

I have not planted much of a Fall garden.  Life just got in the way.  I did get some Broccoli transplanted about 4 weeks ago.  I did not put up tulle at the time I planted and the worms went to town on the leaves.  I started spraying with BT about 2 weeks ago trying to kill the caterpillars.  I think they are all toast now.  I finally put up the tulle today.

Here is a picture of some of my broccoli.  I planted 18 plants.  They look a bit shiny because I just sprayed them with BT.
brooks GA - 2017 SFG in Brooks, Ga - Page 7 Brocco11

Here they are covered with tulle and mulched with wheat straw.
brooks GA - 2017 SFG in Brooks, Ga - Page 7 Brocco13

And here they are with my critter fence protecting them from some unknown animal.

Just planted my garlic in a 4 x 4 area.  I did not use SFG spacing.  I used 8 inches between cloves.  That relates to 30 bulbs in 16 squares.

Here is a good article for southern garlic growers.

Thank you for posting the article on southern garlic growing. I bought a softneck variety from Territorial a few days ago. I think the bed I have chosen for the garlic should provide the best options according to the article. The box is on wheels near the ground where it is coldest. Also, the area is a brick patio which gets really cold, and there is a plastic frame for shade/rain covers. Here's to optimism. brooks GA - 2017 SFG in Brooks, Ga - Page 7 3170584802

As long as it is cold enough to make garlic happy, but not too cold.

I wonder if the story about the frogs in the water not realizing that it is getting hot is true in reverse? I find the cold of early fall much colder feeling than that in January, when those fall temps would feel warm. I feel like a comfortable fool wearing my deep winter jacket for the first cold snaps in September.

My first Broccoli harvest of the year.  I planted 18 broccoli plants in Sept and this is the first one that is an edible size.  So far, a total of 15 heads are forming that I can see so looks like I will have a good harvest this year.  These were purchased transplants cause I can never seem to get my act together enough to plant my own transplants in Sept.
