No much happening in my part of Canada. I think all Canadians, apart from Trolleydriver, are hibernating. I hope you are preparing your seed lists and dreaming of the longer and warmer days coming.
Enjoy your rest, there will be lots to do in a bit.

The following is a link to the vegetable web page issued by the Master Gardeners in my area (i.e., Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton & Lanark Master Gardeners). There are articles here of interest no matter where you live but there also are specific articles for this area, including when to start seeds indoors and when to transplant, etc.

The following is their home page:

Finally, for our friends in the USA and other countries here is a map to show where I am located (Ottawa, Ontario).

"Snow Day" here is Ottawa. All school buses have been cancelled for the day and many schools are closed. High school kids are happy because this was an exam day which has now been postponed.
Expecting 15 centimetres of snow and ice pellets. Snow is good because Winterlude is less than two weeks away.

It's funny how school children are happy that they do not have to sit an exam because of the snow but I think that is because they live in the present just like our cats and dogs.
Then they grow up, just like we did, and realise that one cannot procrastinate but it is better to get it over with. I still procrastinate myself, so I really should not preach.

Neither Mrs TD nor I remember ever having a day off from school because of a bit of snow. We also had to walk (no school bus) all the way to school in blizzards and it was uphill in both directions. How times have changed.

Well, I never had a snow-day either but then I lived in a "boarding school" from the age of six until I left at fifteen. I feel deprived.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing January 2017
Not much happening here in Southern Interior of BC. Now I realise why sanderson suggested, when I started, that the monthly sections could be condensed into sections of three months; January/February/March and October, November, December.
The rest of the week's temperatures here will hover between just below and just above freezing with a little rain and a few snow flurries and not much sunshine.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing January 2017
I was at a men's prayer breakfast this morning. I came home with some empty juice containers for winter sowing. So many blessings.

And this afternoon my son and his family came for a visit and they brought with them a whole bunch of empty plastic containers.
Let the winter sowing begin!!!

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing January 2017
I'm beginning to think that the two heel spurs on my right foot are going to limit my gardening and other activities this year. I can barely walk at times. I've already told Mrs TD that I may need to buy a small ride-on lawnmower. Exercises relieve the pain but only temporarily. My doctor says I need to increase my calcium intake.
