Get Involved
If you are a member of this great Square Foot Gardening (SFG) Forum, I want to urge you to get involved in the discussion. It appears to me that only a small percentage of our registered members actually post on the forum on a regular basis. Don't be afraid. We won't bite. We are here to help and encourage you in your SFG efforts.
We prefer topics that are directly related to the gardening method developed by Mel Bartholemew, namely The All New Square Foot Gardening (ANSFG). If you have never read the ANSFG book, please get hold of a copy and start reading it. I think you will find that once you start reading you will have difficulty putting it down. If you've already read the book, then read it again and again and ... The information provided by Mel in the ANSFG book is really all you need to have a successful SFG; everything else is peripheral.
If you are a visitor to the forum, we would be delighted if you became a registered member and got into the conversation.
And don't forget that we absolutely love photos. Bring them on!

Raj, You are right, a Chat is long over due. Watch for announcement of chat room date and time in the near future.

There is no barrier to any member saying that they will be on Chat at such and such a time and then being there and waiting for someone to drop in. I have tried it a couple of times but it time to get it ingrained.
I belong to the Elephant Sanctuary Forum, started by one of our members and every Sunday at a precise time we were on there chatting away. I remember one Sunday a number of us spent five hours on there when a herd of ten former circus elephants were transported to Sanctuary. Those days have been superseded by FaceBook.
Winter time is a good time to start having a go at this. Just need to pic a time that suit the majority of people. Harder take in people in Europe and India but there is often some one who it up at three in the morning.

CONSISTENCY is the key -- every _____ at _____ time. Not everyone will be interested/able -- and that's OK, but we DO need to think about what will serve the most.
Think about the day/time carefully and perhaps make them "regionally". Sunday early evenings are great for me (around 8-9 PM) but is that too early for California/Hawaii people? AND it will be the middle of the night in Europe/Africa, 8-9 AM on MONDAY in the Philippines, early afternoon in Australia, etc. when people will probably be at work.
Not discouraging this great idea, but we need to be thoughtful about how this is done.
When I was living in Germany and had to do a lot with people in the States, they usually chose SATURDAYS at 12:00 PM EASTERN. Although not optimal for them it covered:
7 AM in Hawaii
9 AM in California
12 PM Eastern
4-7 PM in Europe/Africa
It would also be:
10 PM in India
Sucky times early SUNDAY morning the further round you go
Of course we could ask Raj in India or someone in Australia to host another chat at reasonable hours in that region.
Again, these are just things to think about.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
