Tomato Mystery Mix
Recently, while apple picking at a nearby orchard, I was pleased to discover a vast assortment of freshly harvested heirloom tomatoes for sale in the farm's market. Thinking I would save seeds and grow them, I purchased several varieties of tomatoes I've been wanting to try, and some others too tantalizing to resist. I recognized most of the varieties by name, but by the time we got home and unpacked the bags, I couldn't tell which tomato was which variety. Knowing I couldn't go wrong with the selections I'd made, I decided to have some fun and create a "mystery mix" of the seeds.
Fast forward a few weeks and the seeds have been harvested, dried, and are ready for planting next year. I have an abundance of these "anonymous" gems and will be happy to share them on a first-come, first-served basis with other adventurous gardeners in the group.
Curious? Here's what you need to know:
- There are no cherry, purple, or green varieties in the mix. All are bi-colored, yellow, orange, or red; slicer, beefsteak, stuffer, or ox-heart. Included are seeds from Pink Brandywine, Yellow Brandywine, Hillbilly, Yellow Garden Peach, Wapsipinicon Peach, Moonglow, Azoychka, Gold Medal, Russian Oxheart, and a few yummy others I don't recall.
- The seeds are mixed together and un-labeled. While it's likely that each pack (20 or so) will contain several varieties, I cannot guarantee that all listed will be represented in every envelope.
- Assume they are open-pollinated, indeterminate, and mid-to-late season
- Free to good homes, no swaps are required
Send me a PM if you enjoy "good" garden surprises and would like to join the fun! A SASE would be appreciated, but if you can't swing it, don't let that stop you....

Re: Tomato Mystery Mix
Sounds like an exciting experiment. I would try some but I am the only person in California who can't grow decent heirloom tomatoes. I'm trying hybrids and those with numbers in their names!
Re: Tomato Mystery Mix
Those all sound like great varieties- and I love a good mystery- so bring it on. Plus- I'm used to mysteries- or surprises as we sometimes call them- since I am terrible at labeling my seedlings. No need to label here I gather

Re: Tomato Mystery Mix
Sanderson, the seeds are free, sure you don't want to try again? Given the informal nature of the effort, maybe the plants would feel less pressure to perform to their pedigrees, and do better in the long run...?
Mimi, glad to hear from ya! Please PM me your address.

Mimi2, I dropped your seeds in the mail today. I don't know how long it will take for them to get to you; please let me know when they arrive or if you haven't gotten them within a couple of weeks.

Re: Tomato Mystery Mix
Hi,
I am from India.
I live in Apartment and actually don't have much space for garden. I have a small balcony/ terrace where I grow about 20+ plants in containers. I grow few peppers, heirloom tomatoes some flowers, melons, Eggplant and whatever possible to grow in containers. While peppers grow easily in container, heirloom tomatoes have some limitations and fruits are smaller compared to one grown in soil, but flavour is excellent. Most of my seeds are from Baker creek. I have almost 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes + few peppers, pumpkins, squashes (all heirloom). We do not have frost in this part so i am able to grow vegetables year round.
All seed packet contain about 30 seeds and I can plant only few at a time + I save my own seeds. As a result I have some excess seeds with me which I would love to share for varieties I don't have.
Thanks for your time
Avinash

Avinash, Welcome to the Forum from California, U.S. Many of us also purchase seeds from Baker Creek. BC has some seeds from around the world which is a worthy endeavor. We have another member from India, rajmahendra, who may want to exchange seeds with you. He has a SFG on the roof. https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t20956-tryst-with-my-first-diy-sfg-in-india
Re: Tomato Mystery Mix
