Spring/summer garden pics
I took some pics of whats left of my spring/summer garden before I start my fall planting.
This is my 2nd planting of my carrot bed.
Gypsy Peppers.
If you like mildly hot peppers, you gotta try these "Mexi Bells"
Red Bells
Ornamentals
Yellow Bell (almost)
My apple crop
Yummy peaches
And lastly, my sweet taters and I cant wait to dig'em and eat'em up....lol

Re: Spring/summer garden pics
I was doing fine until I got down to the peaches. Now I'm so jealous I want to kick something. Grrrrrrr!
There, I went out and kicked a redwood tree. I feel much better, now. Great pics. Beautiful garden. (Uh, are those peaches sweet and juicy? )

Their pretty sweet now but stiil have a little crunch to them. In a week or so, they'll be just right. I cant figure it out but the peaches came in about a month later this year than last.countrynaturals wrote:I was doing fine until I got down to the peaches. Last year I had to cut them open and eat them with fork because if you tried to hold them in your hand and eat them, the juice would run my chin and neck.

Holy cow! You certainly are having a bountiful summer. I got nada from my new apple and peach trees this year due to a late frost. Will you be saving seeds from your Mexi Bells for trade later?
Tell me about your apple tree please? Do you have 2 of them?

Yes, I have had one of the best gardening summers I've ever had. We had an early spring with a good amount of rain. If you need Mexi Bell pepper seed, I'll send you some. The Mexi bell is not as hot as a jalapeno but just enough bite for me. If you want, give me your address and I'll mail you some seed.CapeCoddess wrote:Holy cow! The apple tree is a dwarf and was here when we bought the place 30 years ago and has produced abundantly every year except when a frost gets it in the spring. We only have the one apple tree and don't know the variety. All we know is that it puts off big red apples. Maybe red delicious???? The peach is a dwarf Belle of Georgia and we have a dwarf Bartlett Pear.
Please let me know about the Mexi Bell seed and I'll start drying you some today.

Re: Spring/summer garden pics
Years ago, a friend brought us a whole bag of overripe peaches from her tree. We made icecream out of them -- good old fashioned churn-it-yourself icecream. We were having a picnic anyway, and took turns churning. It was the best icecream any of us had ever tasted and created a fabulous memory besides.MrBooker wrote: Last year I had to cut them open and eat them with fork because if you tried to hold them in your hand and eat them, the juice would run my chin and neck.

We used to take turns churning ice cream when we were kids. Wow...great memories.countrynaturals wrote:Years ago, a friend brought us a whole bag of overripe peaches from her tree. Re: Spring/summer garden pics
MrBooker - first of all, gorgeous!!!
2nd - how do you take care of your peach tree? We've NEVER gotten peaches off of ours. And they're 18 or so years old. They get to a certain size, then rot & fall off...
And I love those purple peppers... what are they?

Re: Spring/summer garden pics
Wow.. No peaches in over 18 years. All we do with the peach tree is spray in the spring when the peaches are very small. That helps keep the bees off of them. Seems like once the bees start biting them, the juice runs out and thats where they start to rot. We also use Jobes tree spikes (fertilizer) and drive them in the ground at the drip line.AtlantaMarie wrote:MrBooker - first of all, gorgeous!!!

The peppers are ornamental. They change colors at different stages. The directions say they are VERY hot and not advised to eat them.. Mostly for decoration. Hope this helps.

Re: Spring/summer garden pics
Oh, well, that would explain it, lol! We do nothing to them.
Sigh.... All the best intentions are for naught if you don't put them into practice!
Thanks.
