Cardinals and hornworms
I've been going after hornworms everyday. Today saw the best sight of a northern cardinal feeding on a large hornworm. Upon further reading I found out 1/3 of a cardinals diet will be insects, especially during nesting to feed the young. I thought they were strictly seed eaters. Always enjoyed these birds at the seed feeder and now enjoy having them around even more.

Re: Cardinals and hornworms
Your best sight, a northern cardinal, is prettier than mine, mockingbirds. But mine can sing a lot of different songs.
I haven't seen a horn worm this year but maybe it is still too early??

Re: Cardinals and hornworms
Nice, LM! I didn't know that Cardinals ate hornworms! I do know that goldfinches are about the only seed-only eating bird around here. And I think they even catch bugs for their babies...
True, Sanderson, yours know more songs! LOL!
