Fuji Apple Drought Stress or Nutrient Issue (with pics)
Pretty straight forward, one Fuji Apple in Southern California.
Still growing, still slowly flowering, still setting apples, and looking like this...
Drought stress or nutrient? Possibly both. It's the area I have problems keeping my problematic bed moist.

I'm actually surprised you can even grow apples there. I thought they needed a "winter" frost or freeze. ?? Can you contact your County Ag commissioner for advice? That is a good photo of the leaves.

Yep, low chill apples are all the rage. Fuji's are delicious down here. Anna, Gala, Golden Dorset, Pink Lady's.
I'm in that late summer garden funk. The new bed isn't growing well. The 36 hour destruction bed is slowly giving up the ghost. The peppers and zukes, appear stalled but I at least temporarily held off mildew with sniping and the milk spray. Of course, having said that, I'll walk outside Sunday to rampant plant death everywhere since I'm pretty scheduled until Sunday.
is it bad of me to be looking forward to October and plowing it all under and planting my onions, garlic, carrots and lettuces and redoing the irrigation?

I feel the same way. I'm back in Charlie Brown mode: "Just wait until next year" I'm gonna start planting carrots, onions, and turnips as soon as this heat wave is over (approx Aug. 1). I hope it's not too early, but I'm gonna try it anyway.No_Such_Reality wrote:I'm in that late summer garden funk. . . .

It looks like a type of chlorosis on the older leaves. Try this link:
http://customers.hbci.com/~wenonah/min-def/apple.htm
I have a Pink Lady and it had lots of apples until the high heat came in and they got sunburned on the fruit exposed to the sun. I pulled them out and am thankful I still have some apples protected by some leafy top.
Good luck!
