Cotton Hull Mulch anyone using?
I am trying Cotton hull Mulch on my SFG this year and was wondering if anyone has any experience using it. so far I really like it. It seems to insulate really well and the soil stays cool and moist under it. Weeds cant seem to germinate in it very well either. Only used it on a few beds this year. One thing I was wondering is what do I do at the end of the season? leave it in place and then mix it in in the spring when I add compost? Take it off as best I can and re-use it after spring planting? any feedback is appreciated.

Re: Cotton Hull Mulch anyone using?
This is just a wild guess. Your cotton hulls, like my wheat straw, are high carbon and don't break down much during the summer. Guessing that if they were added to a compost pile with sufficient greens, they would break down. I don't mix it in because it would tie up nitrogen in the Mix as it breaks down. In the fall, I remove it in beds that will be winter-planted and bag it to reuse in the spring. I remove it on the beds that will sleep during the winter, top with fresh compost and replace. The worms seem to go crazy in the fresh compost under the straw and in the spring, there are is a thick layer of worm castings!
