Tomato Tower - made with PVC pipe?
I am interested in making a Tomato Tower for our new SFG. I was looking at Mel's Tomato Tower on the SFG website for $39.99 + $15.00 shipping. It says that it is made of galvanized steel. Also, I was in Lowe's yesterday looking at buying the components and assembling. Lowe's has the 1/2" galvanized steel and the rebar, and the price was about the same as buying Mel's Tower. They also had PVC pipe and the price was much less, of course. Has anyone used PVC to construct a Tomato Tower, and if so, what do you think? Does that work well? Will PVC Tower stand up to mother nature for growing Tomatoes?

Re: Tomato Tower - made with PVC pipe?
I had to look at the sfg.com site to see what a tomato tower was. Looks like an all purpose trellis of 1/2" EMC pipe/tubing, 90* fittings, with nylon trellis netting. The EMC is great, doesn't bend with weight, lasts forever. The trellis netting lasts a few seasons, only the zip ties need replacing when they get brittle.
PVC can be used but the horizontal run will droop if the run is very long. Have you checked for trellis in the Search box. There are 189 of threads.
You have your choice. PVC 4' length
EMC 4' length.
