New Raised Bed With Watering Grid and Electric Fence Empty New Raised Bed With Watering Grid and Electric Fence

Post  tred1956 4/24/2016, 7:56 pm

Hi,
Just finished my first raised bed at my new home. It is 4 ft x 8 ft and about24 inches deep. Dogs wanted to play in it so to keep peace in the neighborhood (instead of shooting) I constructed a 2 foot high electric fence. Charger is housed in the red building, switch below turns it on. I am much too old and clumsy to step over while on. The watering grid has four holes per square. A 4 ft x 6 ft will go between charger and existing bed. Water line will be hard plumbed to replace  hose and power will be buried to replace extension cord. Planted the tomatoes and peppers last night about 10 PM. Son helped build it all and he want to help plant. Hope to post pictures below. Got the pictures uploaded but one is on it's side. How do I or can it be fixed. GOT IT FIXED cheers

Good Gardening
Doug

Doug, that bed looks nice. I just hope you turn off that fence when you go to harvest...wouldn't want you bending over to reach in and having your back end hit the wire.

I like the watering grid. It looks like it has really good coverage. I know some folks on the forum couldn't get the water to come out evenly. What size holes did you drill? What is it connected to, just a garden spigot?

Thanks

Hi,
My son is the electrician and the first thing I insisted on was a switch to turn fence off with. I am to old to back into hot fence New Raised Bed With Watering Grid and Electric Fence 931411784 . I used a 1/16 inch drill bit. Just eyeballed location, but put them angling toward center of square at approximately 45 degrees.Eight holes water each square. It will eventually be plumbed in to water system, but now is just hooked to a garden spigot.

Nicely done.  Handy having and electrician in the family.  Good thinking having an off switch, providing you don't forget to turn it off. Very Happy

Looks great, Doug! After seeing this, I may have to take another stab at a pvc watering grid. I attempted it twice last year, and failed miserably.

Hi,
Electric fence house got final coat of paint and trim work today. Raised bed itself is made of 6x6 and 2x6 boards three course of each, most of one side is below ground. Ground was plowed and amended  before placing bed on it and filling with the GOOD STUFF. Also posting a few more pictures. Hose screws into PVC pipe. Will be buried and permanently plumbed later as will extension cord be replaced with buried permanent wire. Bottom picture shows insulators I use for fence wire. Each corner has a loop twisted then pin inserted, makes it easy to tighten wire if it sags.  Finally coming together New Raised Bed With Watering Grid and Electric Fence 3170584802
