Re: Butterfly Junction
I finally found a number to get through to Suz.
They have already evacuated twice and are waiting at the Animal Sanctuary to see if they have to go again. There are no hotels within a 100 miles. The Indian Casino opened their facility, filled up immediately and now there are folks sleeping on the floor. The blind animals have already been moved to a safe area but there are still dogs and other barn animals. The family is together and trying to figure out Option #3, with Options #1 and 2 having passed.
This is the fire map of the Carr Fire. The Blue Dot is where they live. Over 44,500 acres and only 3% contained. Suz said that if anyone saw the fire tornado on the news, it is not the one that they had, but they had one of their own.
Carr Fire Press Conference at 4 PM - July 27, 2018
"The fire became very active throughout the evening. Firefighters continue to work aggressively to build containment lines around the Carr Fire. Their efforts have been hampered overnight due to extreme fire behavior and challenging wind conditions. Continued hot dry weather is forecasted for the remainder of the week with triple digit temperatures. The number of damaged and destroyed structures reflected may change throughout the duration of the fire." 1,748 personnel, 110 engines, plus helicopters, bulldozers, etc. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/at-least-2-dead-scores-of-homes-lost-as-fire-sweeps-through-redding/ar-BBL78Mf?li=BBnbcA1

Butterfly Junction
Suz,
I hope you and everyone are safe!
Please let me know if there's anything I can do. I have room for a couple of boarders, and even a few cats, if necessary. Also, there are neighborhood kids (and neighbors) who might be able to help with dogs.

Re: Butterfly Junction
Dodged another bullet last night. Our homes are still here. The wind stayed low and blew down from the north. The bad news is that it opened a new area to the fire, so the fighters still didn't get a break. Everyone here is wearing down, with no relief in site. A bad wind night could wipe us all out, but all we can do is wait.
Re: Butterfly Junction
Thank you so much. Hopefully, it won't come to that, but we're already on our 3rd line of defense and running out of options. I'll try to keep you posted.donnainzone5 wrote:Suz,

Re: Butterfly Junction
Suz, I just sent you a couple of texts. I was wondering if the wind pushed in south and west. I watch the Cal Fire incident reports and map.
Re: Butterfly Junction
I saw the news and they mentioned Redding and I thought about you, CountryNaturals. I wish you well.

Re: Butterfly Junction
The big wind push from last night has been south into Igo (where we used to live) and Happy Valley. No impact on any of our family homes. Holding our breath that the winds don't pick up and blow west. That's our biggest fear.sanderson wrote:Suz, I just sent you a couple of texts. I was wondering if the wind pushed in south and west. Re: Butterfly Junction
This fire is devastating our community. We all thought we were safe. "It could never happen to us." The nature of the the fire is so unpredictable, and the thing is so big, it makes its own weather and wind. Today, the prediction is for winds to shift to all 4 directions and the size has more than doubled again. We're now at over 80,000 acres.Roseinarosecity wrote:I saw the news and they mentioned Redding and I thought about you, CountryNaturals. I wish you well.

Re: Butterfly Junction
I looks like the wind changed directions and the fire is wrapping around the lake. I'm guestimating that the Fire line to Suz's house is a mile +/-.

I thought I posted this update but I probably hit the wrong button. This is the fire map update at 6:45 PM, July 27. The fire has wrapped around the lake. Just pray that the wind doesn't shift again.

Re: Butterfly Junction
Isn't that the truth! There are about 38,000 of us in that boat. For some reason, they won't let us back into any area that had destruction, even if our area has been completely contained. We were within a mile of the worst of the fire, but our neighborhood was completely spared. There were no destroyed homes north or west of us, but the only road in continues on to the tragedy zone, and the only way back out would be a U-turn, so that would make for an untenable traffic situation. In the meantime, we're stuck, with nothing to do but wait.CapeCoddess wrote:gadz...

We're no longer worried about our house or animals, but now our plant situation is becoming critical. Nothing has been watered in 4 days. That means all of our container plants are likely dead. I have a 3-year investment in my asparagus bed. If I can't get to it today, it will probably be gone, too. Next is the fruit trees. I have no idea how long they can last without water in this heat. I don't care that much about the citrus trees, but the figs are irreplacable. They came from our previous location, which has now been taken over by pot growers. Finally, is the redwoods. If they die, we have nothing left but scrub.

Re: Butterfly Junction
We got through to a neighbor who didn't evacuate, and she watered our redwoods. I'll let you know if anything else survived, as soon as they let us back in. We're the very last ones to be lifted because we were the closest to the worst of the destruction. The repair crews don't want us underfoot while they make repairs since their workload is so extensive in our area.donnainzone5 wrote: What a relief!
Please let us know, when you can, about your plants.
