Hello from Northern Virginia!
I am a Software Engineer in Northern Virginia. I have been doing some variation of square foot gardening since I was a teenager, and am finally doing Mel's mix this year.

Joshua! Photos are always welcome. Would love to see your current garden.
You'll love MM. It's so easy to work with and feels really nice. Do you already have a compost pile going?

Re: Hello from Northern Virginia!
I will definitely post pictures as I get things set up! I am probably going to be building my beds tonight. I already have all the ingredients, even though I could only find medium grade vermiculite.
I have actually done MM before, but only in a very small quantity for pots, where it worked great.
I live in a townhouse with a small yard, so I can't have a proper sized compost pile. I got a 35 gallon plastic bin, which looks presentable, and will use that. It won't get properly hot, but I will hopefully still get some nice compost.
I am also setting up a worm bin!

Re: Hello from Northern Virginia!
Welcome, Josh! Sounds like you have a great start on the whole SFG thing! You won't believe the diff that MM makes. I have done the old version of SFG, and although heads and shoulders above row gardening, the "All New" makes it soooo much simpler.
As for compost, I don't do a hot pile, just a straight out old fashioned Rodale style dealie. Works great, makes wonderful "dirt".
Glad you found us, keep us posted!

Re: Hello from Northern Virginia!
Josh,
I don't make much compost due to time and space constraints. I sometimes buy a variety of average composts from local stores, and mix them together like the book says. And sometimes when I am busy, I buy a very high quality compost that doesn't require mixing. There is a company called Veteran Compost that makes a very high quality compost. And they have pick-up spots in Northern Virginia. Might be an option for you. http://www.veterancompost.com/
Good luck
