Boiled Linseed Oil-Safe?

Boiled Linseed Oil-Safe?
Mel's book recommends linseed oil for wood box preservation. I went to my local hardware store today and all they have is "boiled" linseed oil, which has additives. On the label it recommended using "raw" linseed oil for baby beds and children's toys, which led me to believe "boiled" linseed oil might not be safe for a SFG box. I'm a newbie at SFG, and just joined the forum. I did a search, but wasn't able to find an answer to this question.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Boiled Linseed Oil-Safe?
I don't know anything about linseed oil, but I do know that food-grade mineral oil is used to condition wooden cutting boards. Don't know if it would work to preserve an outdoor box, though?
Re: Boiled Linseed Oil-Safe?
Boiled linseed oil is not recommended for boxes where you're growing food. Stick to non boiled one, preferably food grade linseed oil. Only drawback is that it will take longer to dry, but I think it's worth it not to risk to ingest nasty chemicals.
