Onion Seedlings
Well, Monday, March 21st was definitely NOT the correct date to plant onion seedlings in the outdoor bed. I lost almost all my onion seedlings that I had been growing for weeks indoors when colder than forecast temps hit overnight.
Do you guys think there is time left to start new seedlings for Wala Wala onions and Yellow onions?
Thanks,

Re: Onion Seedlings
Do they look damaged? My red onion sets were out in 3 days of freezing temps and then snow and I'm assuming they are OK.
Can you try cutting off the damaged part and see they will grow back? Onions are pretty resilient, at least in my garden.

Onion Seedlings
Well, the seedlings toppled over and are brown from about a centimeter up from the soil line. It looks like beneath the soil the seedling looks ok. Do you think they might recover if the roots and small bulbs are looking ok? I have trouble with onions every year! Last year, all the roots were being eaten through June and July by grubs. I managed to control the grubs with nematodes as far as I could tell and the onions rebounded and bulbed up nicely.
I will leave them in to see if they recover since we should have nice weather for at least through the weekend.
I guess I could buy sets if these don't pan out.
Thanks!

Re: Onion Seedlings
zackshea ... I've got a feeling they will survive.
My indoor onion and leek seedlings were getting a bit long and tangled so I gave them a haircut today. The pieces I cut off are quite yummy.

TD - thanks for the encouragement!
I also munch on the onion clippings. They're delicious!
