Ruby Ball Cabbage seeds wanted
Anyone have some extra Ruby Ball cabbage seeds to trade? They have them at Territorial but with the S&H it's around $15 for a small pack.

No Ruby Ball here, but...
Which features of Ruby Ball make it of interest to you? ...maybe someone has an alternative to share -- or a suggestion of a cheaper variety that still does all/most of what you're looking for, if you haven't already come to a decision. I have Red Express, which are supposed to be compact, early, split resistant, and 2-3-4 lb.

Ooooo...that's sounds intriguing, Beetles! The only reason I picked Ruby Ball is because it's a favorite of the New Victory Garden books author, Bob Thomson. Since he's in Boston I figured whatever he grows should do will in my area.
I'll PM you and we'll discuss a trade if you want.

Locally grown red cabbages
Makes sense! That's why I picked Red Express -- it's what a local CSA was growing. I've got a big fat Red Express seedling waiting for me to start the hardening off process. But I need to assemble a covered wagon style cover before transplanting because I saw my first cabbage butterfly of the season today. I spent too much time hand-picking the caterpillars last year... by the end of the year I getting annoyed enough to yell at the butterflies and chase them with the hose spray (neither of which does any good!)
I adopted my late grandfather's Crockett's Victory Garden book when I visited my grandmother at Christmas. I bet the new one is even better, I'll keep an eye out for it.
