reinforced polyethylene ? Empty reinforced polyethylene ?

Post  jimmy cee 2/26/2016, 10:30 pm

I'm planning to enclose this bed for use as a greenhouse soon. Will be setting up plants in pots here before planting in the MM.
6 mil  12 feet wide X 100 feet long will cost me just over $100...
Has anyone used this reinforced material ?
I'll be removing it after finished as it will be a bed dedicated to zucchini, cucumbers and radishes.

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy . . . another project? thinking

By material, do you mean Home Depot stocked 6 mil "clear" plastic? If so, it's stronger than 4 mil, but hard to wrestle.

Yes, only this is reinforced with string. It's not treated for the suns rays, it will only be up for the spring and fall.
I was looking at some $200 - $500 greenhouses, but then I figured I had this already done, and it just might work.

Okay. What kind of roof will you install to allow the rain/snow to run off? Gable, dome?

Roof ??? I think I'll just lay some boards across to support the plastic, I do want the sun on this bed during early summer...To cold for me today, low 40s but that wind was howling from the north.
I'll probably do as I do everything else, Rube Goldberg it as I go along...Remember him ????

A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered to perform a simple task in a complicated fashion, generally including a chain reaction. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970).

I tend to MacGyver my solutions:

From http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Macgyver

"v. 1. To use ingenuity to fix or remedy a problem using only the tools available at hand. 2. To jury-rig

By roof I meant the same plastic but supported at an angle.  Rube Goldberg, jury-rig, MacGyver. Being older means one has a repertoire of wonderful sayings.  Almost like a secret language! Wink
