what am I doing in February.  Waiting to do stuff.  I was out poking around today.  The bed I have covered to warm up is winning.  The ground is very workable, but the one I have not covered, is still quite frozen.  As part of my experimentation for this year, I did plant 1 broccoli and one cabbage inside (yes just 1 but I have/had a plan).  It spouted just fine but where I do not have much for light in the house, I tossed the broccoli as it is still cold outside, and will replant just to sprout again.  The cabbage I decided to keep and will take it for a walk in a cloche during the day and bring it in at night just to see.  All of nature's ground greenery is coming to life around me so why the heck can't I plant now right?  Yeah Yeah I know, be patient, but after finding this forum and reading what everyone else does, and what I could do, patience is wearing thin.  Kelejan, the garlic I presumed survived just fine after the big freeze earlier in the week, but I covered it with leaves at the time and have not uncovered it just yet.  Maybe a little later next week.  I am going to build a cover for the one garden, I will need to if I am going to try planting early.  I just have to stop thinking about it and do it.  And also this month I am trying to get my father (he does not live close to me) to read the book and get my nephew to try SFG.  I think they both will enjoy it.  2 more days then it will be what are we doing in March.

P14, you are doing well.  In a little while you will be able to work on the bed you have warmed and before you know it, spring will be here and you will be able to work to your heart's content.

I am still clearing up after winter, all the things I should have done before snowfall.
There are so many parts of my garden that went to wilderness that I just do not look at them but concentrate on the bit I can do.

My yard is really too big for one person so I concentrate on what I can do.

There have been ten freeze-thaw cycles in Ottawa this winter which is creating havoc with the roads and making them into pothole obstacle courses. The city has fixed 16,500 potholes so far this winter. I expect some of those are the same potholes that keep opening up and having to be repaired several times.

That is the trouble with freeze-thaw cycles isn't it. It is much better when the temperature remains below freezing for most of the winter.

We have to many of those cycles but not so intense as you seem to get it in Ottawa, TD. Not too many potholes here, just snow half-melting then turning to ice that makes it rather hard for pedestrians.

I saw the forecast for Ottawa on TV this morning, snow/rain/ice pellets. Sad

CC ... I direct planted Leek seeds in a square last year. They came up but remained small. I was told (I think by KJ) that they require two years to mature. So I left them in over the winter. Not sure if it's maybe too cold here for them to survive. I've just sown some more indoors to see if I can get a head start for this year.

Note: Above copied from New England posted recently by Trolley Driver.

TD, Let me know the results, if any.  I'm good at giving suggestions without following up and doing the work.  Thanks a bunch. Very Happy

KJ ... Yes, bad weather here again. At 8:15 this morning I had a one hour drive up the Ottawa Valley to a town called Renfrew. It was snowing like crazy when I left but as soon as I got out the city it stopped. The bigger problem was the road ... it was mostly snow covered and I had to keep the wheels "on the tracks" that had been made bare by the traffic ahead of me. Back home now and waiting for more snow, ice pellets and freezing rain this evening and into tomorrow morning.

Concerning the leeks ... It's going to be a while before I see the top of my SFG boxes. The leeks are under the snow and leaves assuming they have not already perished. Will keep you informed.
