Bump
It looks like Harriet and mate have only one chick this year.

Can't wait to see the baby pics.sanderson wrote:Bump

Thanks, S -- don't know how I missed it.sanderson wrote:Click on the link 2 posts up.
Dumb question: I see a baby and an egg, so why do you say there might be only one chick? Should the other egg have hatched by now?
BTW, that's a very sophisticated cam setup -- very impressive.

Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
I don't think the egg is viable because neither parent is nesting. The eggs usually hatch within a day or so of each other. However, the chick has some great nesting instincts and should be a good parent someday.
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
KJ, I checked tonight and it was active. ?? However, sad news is that the baby died. Crews removed him and the unhatched egg to determine the cause of death. The parents look lost. Grieving?
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
I was wondering if the little eaglet was overfed as one comment said it was stuffed and with the abundance of food and only one offspring to feed, that could be a cause?
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
Good news. They are rebuilding (redecorating?) the nest and spending some close time together.

They still have time to raise two chicks. It is early days yet.
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
And, they are in Florida (?). I watched the current videos and it was funny to see them squabbling over where to put the sticks in the nest. Yet, they are on the same page. Like old married couples.
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
They are continuing to rebuilt the nest and "bond." I hope they have another clutch.

I enjoy watching them as well. sanderson. After they lost their chick, I watched them rebuild and bond once more and kept my fingers crossed they had enough time to have another go.

Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
Just spent a lovely hour watching the eagles. Eggs are on the verge of hatching.
Interesting watching M15 (the male) having a bath and then perching on a branch and drying off. He looked so bedraggle to start with so sits there flapping his wings and preening to dry off before he resumes his share of egg-sitting. Before that he brought a squirrel to his mate Harriet and we watched her tearing it to bits and stuffing it into her crop.

It is about a month since I last posted and it seems the two eaglets are flourishing.
I have a bit of catching up to do. They are on live right now.
Nice to watch while I am having my breakfast.
Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
Still enjoying the eagles. A few days ago Harriet got knocked off her perch by a Great Horned Owls. She lost a few feathers but no lasting harm. Her mate chased him off.
The youngsters are now about five weeks old now a stretching their wings.

Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
Good to catch up. I think E16 got tired of getting bonked on the head by E15 and has learned to stay out of the way during feeding time.

Re: Eagle eggs ready to hatch in nest
I think Hurrican Ian destroyed the nest and Harriet and M15 are trying to build a new one. The first 3 sticks are the hardest. Anyone watched them recently?
