One of my compost bins is ultra simple. It's just a few stakes pushed into the ground with some left-over plastic hardware cloth tie-wrapped to the stakes to make a circle. It's about three feet high and three feet across. One portion can be opened to gain access for turning the pile. The whole thing has the remains of small blow-up swimming pool on top to protect the contents from the rain. It's only been in place for a few months so it will be interesting to see how long it will last. But the cost was right ... zero dollars for the re-purposed stuff.

Cool ideas, Sanderson!  I LOVE the wine barrel idea.  Looks like they're mounted so you can turn them.  Awesome.  The cardboard box idea is pretty clever too.  I wonder if the little ones would really work well(the milk crates and the plastic tote).

My very first compost bin was a garbage can.  I had plans to roll it around the yard to mix up the contents, but believe it or not that gets pretty hard when it's heavy.  Now I have a simple hardware cloth circle with wood nailed on the ends and attached with hook and eye closures.
