New from central Texas
Well, somehow I posted a picture of my brand new SFG on another topic but I thought I was introducing myself on this topic! So, here I go. Hopefully I'm getting it in the right spot this time.
I'm Cindy. Haven't seriously gardened in several years. I'm new to having an empty nest and gardening has been on the top of my list for things to spend time on when my kids were no longer at home. So, I've recently built 2 SFG beds, just one of them has anything planted in it right now.
I grew up in NW Ohio and I've lived in central Texas longer. I still pine for Ohio summers but I do love Texas every other season of the year.
I moved to a new-to-me home in a small town in May. I've never lived in a semi-rural area and getting used to all the critters out here is taking a while. I put bird netting up over my SFG from the start knowing that we have possums, raccoons, cats, wild pigs, etc in the area. Oh, and tarantulas! Not that they go after gardens but just that even after living in TX for 27 years, I saw my first tarantula at my new house in May. I'm still dealing with that reality!
I look forward to learning from the experiences of others and to harvesting from my own gardens from here on out.
Thanks,
Cindy in Taylor, Texas, USA

Fun! Love that you have new experiences, house, garden etc....I am dreading the empty nest, so hopefully I can immerse myself into work and my SFG. I Too have done traditional gardening, but honestly, it just got lost every August...."Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns n Roses playing in the background....and I re-purposed 4 of my old window boxes last spring to SFG..best thing I ever did!
They are way deeper than needed, but free, so I am gonna roll with it. So glad you are here!
