Well, I had forgotten how itchy those ole bean leaves are until now, just got done taking down the Kentucky Wonder pole beans, they were done. Little contorted, funky beans, no blooms. OVER! Cleaned up some of the chard, pulled grass that had invaded the bean area. Composted. Picked a few Sunsugar cherries and 2 sweet banana peppers. My basil has bolted. Should have just pulled them. Maybe I will get a 2nd wind...

Something ate my kale seedling, it is gone. Radishes are up, 2 of the 4 clumps of mesclun are visible. MM was pretty dry. Hoping for rain, I am getting weary of the whole watering thing.

How about you guys?

The only things I have left from summer are my peppers.  I cleaned out everything else.  I did transplant collard greens in September for a fall harvest.  They are doing very well, but the caterpillars love them.  So I spray with Bt, but the leaves are so slippery that most of it just runs off.  So I also covered them with tulle.

Wow, Mike, my peppers did NOTHING this year, and honestly, that is a first! Glad you got some. I have never grown collards or kale, that is why ai was kinda jazzed for the kale...not to be, I think it is too late. FFD here is usually 10/15. Not real happy with the germination on the lettuce either.

I'd like to brag about the collards, but I can't.  I bought transplants from the local greenhouse in early September.  But they are doing well, and I hear that they taste better after going through some frost.  We will see.

Peppers are still going strong; I need to pick salad greens and radishes plus tomatoes.  They look really sad but are still producing.  I am leaving the last carrots until closer to frost; still need to plant the garlic that just arrived last week.

Herblover, how many garlic per SF? And when do you typically harvest them? Have you had good luck? I grew (tried) in a traditional garden and literally LOST them in the weeds/grasses/etc. I might have to try garlic again, I eat it alot.

Atlanta Marie - I have a few garlic bulbs that I won't need that I can send you if you will really plant them.  Unfortunately, all my garlic got mixed and I do not know what variety these are.  They are Inchelium Red or Red Toch or Chets Italian.

Planting garlic in a SFG square means you always know where the garlic is supposed to be! Garlic is one of those things that you can plant and forget. Start watching them after 4 months (depending on climate, weather, rain, date planted) to see when they are ready to harvest. Oh, yes, and to remove any scapes.

I am actually going to plant them in the one open space in a flower bed; behind the knockout roses.  I bought two varieties ( Early Italian Purple and Nootka Rose).  I only have 2 SFG boxes and don't want to give the space to all the garlic.

Maybe I will just stick them in near my chives & thyme bed in the ground? I don't have a lot of SF either.
