You know the old wives tale. Eat a watermelon seed and you'll be pregnant with melon? Well, if that was true, I may be preggers with hundreds of little Sugar Babies!  My two Sugar Baby vines produced wonderfully this year, but to my dismay, there were nearly as many seeds as there was edible flesh. I don't want to grow them again knowing that is the case. No  So, my question is....

Do y'all have any suggestions for a good, smaller-sized watermelon, that would have fewer seeds and be ideal for my SFG??

Did you pick them too late? I know with some cucumbers for instance, if you don't pick them young they fill up with seeds.

Hmm, good question Marc.  I have no idea Smile  I do know that I picked one too early and it's flesh was still mostly white.  Lesson from this is to log and pay attention to the "days to maturity."

I had the same experience with Sugar Baby.  The 2 melons I was ever able to grow were very seedy and I won't grow them again. I'll be interested in what others suggest.

I have not grown the small watermelons, but there are seedless varieties of the Sugar Babies in seed catalogs...kinda expensive though!

I'm glad I read this topic (like I don't read all of them!). I'll pass on trying Sugar Babies as space is limited for experimenting.
